Exploring How Society Works

Respect My Authority

Posted by: Spencer Stern on: July 25, 2007

I don’t know why some people I meet for the first time exhibit signs of a particular type more identifiable in a matter of minutes than others. Of course with my ego I’m constantly observing reality in accordance with principles I’ve previously identified.

A few weeks ago I went for an interview for an internet company (which I’ll keep anonymous) who have a nicely made web site that promotes their star product which makes web sites for novices.

As soon as I met one of the directors for interview, from the initial eye contact to the casual handshake I ‘just knew’ I was dealing with a Sensory-Logical Extrovert type, otherwise known as an intrepid Marshal.

This was a relationship for me that rested outside of my own alpha quadra. This was an alpha-beta interaction so to speak.

He and I formed a ‘relation of supervision’ whereby I got the ’short end of the stick’ as his dominant Extroverted Sensation (Se) function overshadows my weak inferior Se function. Funny that he should be my potential boss because in this type of relationship that’s how things would have naturally ended up like.

I would have been ‘protected’ from any mishaps I might have gotten into on the job. I didn’t get the job in the end which I now attribute to the fact that we come from different Socionic clubs. I come from the ‘researchers’ club and he comes from the ‘pragmatics’ club.

Heck, I even told him about my book at interview which is so indicative of my club rather than his where I should have showed more enthusiasm to the role. I was preoccupied with selling myself intellectually rather than pragmatically.

In conclusion, the organisation seemed attractive at first because it was part-run by a LSE type who would have looked after my interests nicely plus he promoted a casual working environment. However, in retrospect, I didn’t see much potential for progression in that company.
